A TV-B-Gone is a small keychain-sized device that can turn off mostly any television set.
It is a wonderful invention because it takes care of all those annoying TVs that are always on everywhere you go and nobody is watching them and they are just making noise (and wasting electricity).
If you want, you can even justify it via prooftexting from the Bible:
I will set nothing wicked before my eyes; I hate the work of those who fall away; It shall not cling to me. (Psalm 101:3)
In addition, there are clearly many other more productive and beneficial things one can do besides sitting around and watching some box, such as exercising or going walking around the mall turning off TVs.
Quick Tip
If you're ever in the mall food court and there's this foreign elderly couple watching a TV, use caution when turning it off. They will start shouting at you to turn it back on and then go to get security, at which point it is best to simply inconspicuously amble on down to another part of the mall.
Alternate Uses
In addition to turning off TVs, a TV-B-Gone has many other uses! Here are just a few:
- When young children ask you what that thing is that you just used to turn on/off that TV, tell them it is the remote to your car! And they will believe you, because they are just little kids that will believe anything!
-
It is a relatively little known fact that placing a remote control near the pickup of an electric guitar results in a fun noise.
I realized that a TV-B-Gone would probably make an even FUNNER noise, since it goes through a bunch of different power codes for all sorts of models of televisions!
So I tried it, and my instincts were right; it DID make a FUNNER noise!
And I recorded it for your listening pleasure:
